Robert’s Villanelle

The first villanelle I ever wrote, “Robert’s Villanelle” is a poem that follows a specific rhyme scheme and structure. Originally written in November of 2020.

I’ll fall to my knees,

Put a gun to my head,

Then freeze.

My cuts are too deep,

Next to my bed

I’ll fall to my knees.

It’s Death I will greet,

My blood will drip red

Then freeze.

Your “love” was a tease,

You wanted me dead,

I’ll fall to my knees.

The alcohol I drink

Will go straight to my head,

Then freeze.

Snow all around me,

My life will soon end.

I’ll fall to my knees,

Then freeze.
