Skies Aurora and Black

Focusing on the topics of addiction, identity, and reminiscence, “Skies Aurora and Black” is a rhyming poem written in an altered state of mind. This poem was found in an old notebook and was most likely originally written in the later months of 2021.

A world covered in roses

Skies aurora and black

Paint the skies where we grew up

Of the world that we had.

We ate strawberries and croissants

Climbed cherry trees and pet cats

Stayed up all night until dawn

And no one told us how to act.

That was years ago, my happy place

Never thought it’d ever change

I’m in control, make my world fade away

Replace it with all the things I don’t know how to say.

Burning trees with me as their God

I got a tank of gasoline for things better off gone

Arson is supreme for things soon to be forgot

All our enemies are going to soon be really hot.

Red flowers turn gray

Combat boots and razor blades

Love who you want, free of hate

Paint paths black with rainbow haze.

Skies glow orange, grip my AK

Other than my hoes up on me, stay away

Smoke, snort coke, and drink champagne

Dancing on a pole, whole world enslaved.

Back to drugs, they fuck up my brain

But that’s okay, they numb the pain

Thought I was done, thought I could change

But I’m just dumb, I’m still the same.

Writing this sorta drunk in my room

Because I fucked up yesterday and nobody has a clue

Guilt from all this shit I’m not even supposed to do

Switch from red to blue, this winter ain’t nothing new.

Pills and embers won’t get stopped by this ice over

Well, it could’ve in September, but I knew it by October

I can’t even remember, black out, lights out, game over

Same order, think I’m better, but I’m never getting sober.
