Before I Leave

A poem inspired by a song lyric, “Before I Leave” is a short poem of only twelve lines that explores the harrowing themes of addiction, self-harm, and suicide. Originally written in November of 2020.

Only one more picture before I leave.

Make sure it’s good, it’s the last you’ll see.

You all have fun, but parties aren’t my thing.

I’d rather be at home, alone while I drink.

No, I think I’ll stay sober, but my wrists will bleed.

Fucking withdrawal makes me cut deep.

Everybody at the party knew I was weak.

You guys were concerned, but didn’t know what to think.

Everybody knows, no one wants to believe.

Tonight is the last night I will breathe.

Next time we meet, you’ll put roses at my feet.

No more parties, let me rest in peace.
