Calm is My Grandfather
A poem about love and family, “Calm is my Grandfather” was written before my grandfather passed away. Originally written in May of 2020.
Calm is my grandfather,
Seated on his couch.
His faint voice
Tranquil and pure.
His laugh will—
Or would.
It can,
Or could—
Cure my any heartache.
His arm is warm,
Fingers ice—
Just like me! I’m—
Just like him!
His eyes wander farther
Every day.
He uses (used?) a scythe
To comb his hair,
So I got one
To itch my skin—
My neck and
—
I know he is leaving,
But if I come,
He won’t be alone.
Calm is my grandfather,
His couch may be his
Deathbed.
Though we are separated
By hundreds of miles,
I think of him
Every day.
Calm is my grandfather,
And calmed is my mind
As I wait for him to leave
So I can follow close behind.
